The NEURO Club

The Neuroscience Education, University Research, and Outreach Club at The University of Chicago

Nikki Kijak '17 - President

Nikki is a fourth year undergraduate from Plainfield, Illinois studying Biology and Medicine. Her interests lie in neuroscience, pediatrics and particularly the neonatal field. Outside of classes, Nikki works as a teaching assistant and a research assistant within the neonatal department in the hospital. In her free time, she volunteers at the hospital, loves to bike downtown, and spends way too much time watching Grey's Anatomy. Nikki is very excited to be the President of NEURO Club, and can't wait to see where the club goes this year!

Elle Rathbun '18- Vice President

Elle is a third-year undergraduate student from a small town in Colorado, and she is excited to be Vice President this year! She is double majoring in Biological Sciences and Neuroscience while also exploring the realms of art history and linguistics. She is hoping to continue on to medical and graduate school to pursue neuroscience and plans to find her passion by volunteering and working in labs on campus. In her beloved spare time, Elle makes art, works at various jobs on and off campus, cooks, and goes on outdoor adventures.

Yohyoh Wang '18- Marketing Director

Yohyoh is a third year who grew up in Houston, Texas. She is majoring in the Biological Sciences (spec. Neuroscience) and minoring in Statistics, and hopes to eventually conduct pharmaceutical research once she fully understands the brilliant chaos that is academia. During Yohyoh's second year as NEURO's marketing director, she plans to expand the interest and collaborative opportunities both within and outside of the club by all memes necessary. She is pictured with Stephanie Bi, who is a spectacular past NEURO board member, mentor, and brunch buddy.

Oliver Zhu '17- Director of the Committee on Educational Development (CED)

Oliver is a fourth-year student majoring in Biochemistry and Biology, with a specialization in Neuroscience. He currently studies categorization and decision making in the primate parietal cortex at the Freedman Lab, and in the future, he hopes to study the systems underlying neurological diseases. Outside of NEURO, he works as a teaching assistant and he likes to play piano, bike, and watch (or rather, catch up on) TV shows.

Evan Eschliman '18- Director of the Committee on Community Events (CCE)

Evan is a third year from Kansas City (Go Royals!) majoring in Public Policy Studies and minoring in Biological Sciences. He’s especially interested in how globalization and development have influenced mental health in low- and middle-income countries. When he’s not learning about the brain, Evan plays oboe in the University Symphony Orchestra, misses his garden back home, and craves chips and salsa. He’s done lots of interesting (he thinks) research (from cutting up mice brains to looking at social threat with EEG) that he likes to talk about, so feel free to ask him about it! As former treasurer and director of CCE, Evan can’t wait to see what NEURO will do next!

Lindsey Jay '18- Director of the Committee on Undergraduate Education (CUE)

Lindsey is a third year undergraduate student from Canton, Massachusetts. She is majoring in Biological Sciences and Neuroscience and hopes to pursue a career in pharmaceuticals developing medicine. She currently works in Professor Christian Hansel's lab studying learning and memory in the cerebellum of mice. Outside of NEURO Club, she enjoys making pottery, organizing events for Asian Students' Union, and participating in intramural sports with Alper house. She is looking forward to leading CUE this year!

Oluwatoyosi Arogbokun '18- Events Director

Club Bio Pic (1).jpg

Toyosi is a third year undergrad majoring in Comparative Human Development and minoring in Biological Sciences (or possibly majoring in Neuroscience). She loves learning about the brain and its role in behavior and diseases, and hopes to pursue a career as a pediatric neurologist or psychiatrist. Outside of the board, she is a member of CED. She loves working with children and teaching as well. Outside of NEURO, she volunteers at the children’s hospital, tutors on campus, and works at a local elementary school. In her free time, she loves to read as well as sing and dance around in her room.

Shu Zhang '18- Treasurer

Shu is a third year undergraduate looking forward to serving as treasurer of NEURO this year. She hails from Nashville, TN, and she loves bubble tea, baking, and crafting. If the stars will allow it, she hopes to pursue a career in medicine.

Meera Mody '18- Secretary

Meera Mody will be serving as the 2016-1017 NEURO Club Secretary. She had a wonderful time planning campus- and community- wide neuroscience events this past year, and is very much looking forward to it again this coming year. She is a third year economics major, and is very interested in the application of neuroscience research to the field of economics.
